Page would have played Langeveldt

Former national cricket selector Hugh Page said on Thursday that he would have taken a chance and kept an injured Charl Langeveldt in the South African team for the crucial fifth Castle Lager/MTN Test against England, starting at Supersport Park on Friday. Titans fast-bowler Andre Nel will return to the South African cricket team for the last Test.

Vaughan: ‘It was a very special victory’

England captain Michael Vaughan said on Monday that England had always believed that they could win the fourth Castle Lager/MTN cricket Test against South Africa. England won the Test by 77 runs, after dismissing South Africa for 247 in their second innings to take an unassailable two-one lead in the race for the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy.

England on the charge

England came out all guns blazing after lunch on the fourth day of the fourth Castle Lager/MTN Test against South Africa at the Wanderers on Sunday. At tea, England had 131 for two, giving them an overall lead of 123. Resuming after lunch on seven for one, Marcus Trescothick and Robert Key raced to 50 at just about a run a ball.

South Africa win cricket Test

”Fabulous” is how Graeme Smith described his feelings after South Africa beat England by 196 runs in the fourth Castle Lager/MTN Test at Newlands to level the series and bring to an end England’s 13-Test unbeaten run. England were all out for 304 an hour and 22 minutes after lunch to give South Africa their first Test win since March last year.

South Africa take the honours

South Africa took the honours on the second day of the third Castle Lager/MTN cricket Test at Newlands on Monday, taking three England wickets after tea. At close of play, England had 95 for four in reply to South Africa’s first-innings score of 441 all out. England have a deficit of 346.

Gibbs back in action for next Test

Opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs and swing bowler Charl Langeveldt are included in the 14-man squad for the second and third Castle Lager/MTN Tests against England announced on Wednesday. All-rounder Zander de Bruyn is the only member of the team that lost to England in the first Test to be dropped.
