Tornadoes hit US Midwest states

Tornadoes have swept through portions of the United States Midwest, killing at least three people in Missouri, blowing roofs off homes in Illinois and Arkansas, and damaging about 60% of the buildings on the University of Kansas campus. A fourth storm death was reported in Indiana.

Steve Fossett to attempt new aviation record

Aviation’s adventuresome duo of Steve Fossett and Richard Branson are at it again, announcing plans for another world record flight in the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer. Fossett became the first person to fly non-stop and without refuelling around the globe, starting from and ending in Salina, Kansas, in March.

Around the world in 67 hours

Millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett on Thursday became the first person to fly around the world solo without stopping or refueling — 67 hours and 37 000km after taking off in his spindly-looking, experimental jet. Fossett (60) already holds the record for flying solo around the globe in a balloon.
