Stricker takes Barclays Classic with late surge

Steve Stricker ended a six-year victory drought on Sunday with birdies on the last three holes to give him a two-stroke win over KJ Choi of South Korea at the Barclays Classic. Stricker (40) stood two over par for the day through the first 13 holes, but charged back with four birdies over the last five holes for a two-under-par 69 and a total of 16-under-par 268.

Federer sails through in cosy surroundings

Top-seeded Roger Federer was not on the main stage at the US Open on Sunday but the world number one enjoyed the cosier surroundings and a quick trip into the fourth round. Playing a rare night match at Louis Armstrong Stadium, twice defending champion Federer rolled into the round of 16 with a crushing 6-3 6-3 6-0 victory over unseeded Vince Spadea.
