DRC may lose home advantage in Cup qualifiers

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) may have to play home World Cup qualifiers away from Kinshasa after being given an ultimatum to fix security infrastructure at the capital’s Martyrs stadium. The Congolese federation have been asked to name an alternate venue because Fifa are not satisfied that changes to improve the safety at the stadium had been implemented.

Holders Egypt to meet Cameroon in final

Holders Egypt and Cameroon will meet in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final after two remarkable semifinals on Thursday condemned hot favourites Côte d’Ivoire and hosts Ghana to elimination. Defending champions Egypt ended Ivorian dreams with a 4-1 win in Kumasi, prompting thousands of celebrating fans to pour on to the streets in Cairo.

SA, Senegal crash out of Cup

Senegal and South Africa were eliminated from the African Nations Cup after a 1-1 draw in their last Group D match in Kumasi on Thursday. Both teams needed a win to revive slim hopes of reaching the last eight but finished behind Tunisia and Angola in the standings.

Cup bribery dossier handed to police

A dossier on attempts to fix matches at the Africa Cup of Nations finals has been given to the Ghana police, the Confederation of African Football said on Tuesday. Benin and Namibia were approached last week to throw games at the tournament in Ghana, offered money by an unidentified man to lose group matches.

Warm-up wins for SA, Morocco, Senegal

Morocco, Senegal and South Africa completed their African Cup of Nations preparations with 2-1 victories in friendly matches on Wednesday. South Africa needed a late goal from striker Sibusiso Zuma to squeeze past Botswana in Durban but captain Aaron Mokoena was carried off on a stretcher after a bad tackle.

Khartoum club Al-Hilal are on the brink of completing a fairytale year for football in Sudan as they head to Tunisia for the second leg of their African Champions League semifinal on Saturday. SA to play Zambia in Cosafa Castle Cup final

A first half free kick from Teko Modise was enough to ensure victory for a makeshift South African side in the Saturday’s Cosafa Castle Cup semifinal against Botswana at Atteridgeville, near Pretoria. Modise netted in the 32nd minute to set up a final meeting with Zambia next month, at a venue to be decided.

Egypt lead list of Nations contenders

Holders Egypt head the list of heavyweight contenders seeking to confirm their qualification for next year’s African Nations Cup finals this weekend. A win in Burundi on Sunday would ensure Egypt finish top of their group and join the seven teams already through to the 16-team finals being hosted by Ghana in January.
