Federer hopes late win is much-needed boost

At this point, Roger Federer will take a title victory however it comes. Top-ranked Federer won the Estoril Open on debut and his first title of 2008 when fourth-ranked Nikolay Davydenko retired with a left leg injury while trailing 7-6 (5), 1-2 on Sunday. He hadn’t won a tournament this late into the season in nine years.

Blatter lays down law for 2018 Cup

South America and Africa have no chance of hosting the 2018 Soccer World Cup. ”Of all five continents available to present, South America and Africa will not be allowed to,” Fifa president Sepp Blatter said on Sunday. ”If we hadn’t taken the decision to have a rotation policy in the first place, Africa would never had had the chance to host the World Cup, neither would South America.”

Good day for top teams in FA Cup

Wayne Rooney scored twice for Manchester United to beat Portsmouth 2-1 as Premier League clubs had a good day in the fourth round of England’s FA Cup on Saturday. Rooney scored from a low cross from Ryan Giggs in the 77th minute before hitting a long-range chip into the top left corner of the goal six minutes later.
