Will South Africa turn to spin?

Two group-A teams within three days have described South Africa’s bowling attack as lacking variety and it appears captain Graeme Smith might be starting to listen. After Scotland on Tuesday recorded their best World Cup score of 186, captain Ryan Watson hinted South Africa might hold an edge over Australia — but not due to their bowling.

Gibbs hits six sixes in one over

South Africa batsman Herschelle Gibbs hit six sixes in one over against The Netherlands at the World Cup on Friday, setting an international record. The 33-year-old Gibbs smashed the first three balls from legspinner Daan van Bunge over the short boundary straight down the ground at Warner Park in the 30th over.

Chelsea head for another record season

Approaching the midpoint of the English Premier League season, Chelsea already are way ahead of last year’s record pace. With their 3-2 win over Fulham on Monday, Chelsea won their 16th game in 18 matches and stayed nine points atop the league. Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham also won to keep pace.
