Parreira happy with Bafana training

Bafana Bafana’s first training camp under new coach, Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira, was a success, the coach told reporters at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Wednesday. ”It was good. The players were committed and dedicated.” Parreira said everything went according to plan, with the only disturbance being the bustling Johannesburg traffic.

Parreira impresses Bafana players

Bafana Bafana players were impressed by their new coach, Brazilian Carlos Parreira, after their first training session at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Monday morning. ”He looks good to me. He is like the person we needed for a long time,” England-based Blackburn Rovers player Aaron Mokoena told reporters after the training session.

Ngoepe still angry over granddaughter’s murder

Transvaal Judge President Bernard Ngoepe was still angry and bitter about the murder of his granddaughter Makgabo Matlala, he told reporters outside the Vereeniging Circuit Court on Thursday. ”The outcome of this case has confirmed that there is justice in this country,” Ngoepe said. He said the judge imposed a maximum sentence that was suitable.

Boycott Shoprite Checkers, says Cosatu

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) on Thursday called for a total boycott of Shoprite Checkers stores around the country. Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi made the call while addressing striking Shoprite Checkers workers who had gathered at Beyers Naude Square in central Johannesburg.

Zuma case on hold … for now

Jacob Zuma and the other major players in his corruption trial will have to wait until September 20 to hear whether or not the matter will be postponed. Judge Herbert Msimang on Thursday reserved judgement on the state’s request for a postponement of the trial of the former deputy president and his co-accused, French arms company Thint.
