HIV danger zones

Teenagers often enter HIV danger zones – high-risk factors that can cost them their lives. I set about identifying some of these high-risk factors with a group of grade 11 learners at West Ridge High School in Johannesburg.

Learning from the community

There have been a number of calls recently to intensify local and community participation in school education. Teacher unions, education MECs, the ANC, committees of enquiry as well as research projects have expressed the need for greater opportunity for local structures and organisations to play a role in the strengthening and transformation of formal education at school level.

Making sure you’re cared for

Statistics show that most South Africans are severely under-funded when it comes to retirement savings. Such findings indicate that only 30% of retirement fund members think they will have enough money to live on when they retire, while more than 80% of members indicated that retirement savings are the most important need for them rather than short-term death and disability benefits.
