Celtic still on course for top eight

Petrus Mahlatsi’s brace kept Bloemfontein Celtic’s hopes of qualifying for the top eight alive when they beat Bidvest Wits 2-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday. Celtic meant business from the start, pushing forward in numbers in search of the lead. Their efforts paid off as early as the second minute when Mahlatsi broke the deadlock.

South Africa’s Otto wins Italian Open

South African Hennie Otto secured a maiden European Tour victory after a one-stroke triumph over Briton Oliver Wilson in the Italian Open on Sunday. Otto fired a closing-round 69 for a 25-under par tally of 263, one stroke clear of Wilson, who carded a bogey-free 64 on the Castello di Tolcinasco course.

Rare Somalia talks make slow start, UN hopeful

Rare peace talks between Somalia’s interim government and opposition exiles have made a slow start in Djibouti, but a senior United Nations official said he was encouraged both sides had turned up. ”I am more than hopeful. The Somalis who I met today are committed to peace and reconciliation,” the UN envoy to Somalia told reporters in Djibouti late on Saturday.

Fidentia’s Brown expected in court on Monday

Fidentia chief executive J Arthur Brown is expected to appear in court in Cape Town on Monday after he was arrested on charges of theft, fraud and money laundering on Friday. He was arrested in Cape Town’s central business district appeared in the district court. The case was postponed to Monday and Brown was to remain in police custody until he appeared in court.
