When the media’s voice is misheard

What is the voice of the media? The question was sparked by a recent complaint about a report on service delivery protests, as well as some elements of the current debate around the media. Dale McKinley, of the Anti-Privatisation Forum , wrote that a report entitled ”The travelling protesters” was ”one-sided, politically biased, factually incorrect and lazy”.

Soweto residents challenge water policy

The legal challenge over the access to water between the residents of Phiri in Soweto, against the City of Johannesburg commenced in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday. Counsel for the Phiri residents, Wim Trengove, told the court that residents received the minimum of 50 litres as per government stipulations, however, a third get less than half of this.

SA gain on Australia in one-day rankings

South Africa are edging closer to Australia at the top of the International Cricket Council one-day international (ODI) rankings and now lie just four points behind the leaders following a 2-1 series victory over New Zealand. Graeme Smith’s team began the series on 123 rating points, five adrift of Australia.

Swallows continue PSL nosedive

The nosedive of Moroka Swallows continued in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) on Sunday afternoon as the ailing Birds plunged to a 3-1 home defeat against Jomo Cosmos at the Germiston Stadium. A flurry of three goals in the last five minutes comprehensively sealed Swallows’ fate.
