Interim leaders to rebuild Sanco

The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) has chosen an interim leadership core in an effort to rebuild the organisation and prepare for a properly constituted national conference in September. The organisation made the announcement at a media briefing in Johannesburg on Friday.

Sudan rejects UN peace mission

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Friday rejected a United Nations peace force for Darfur and said he would not grant visas to UN rights monitors who want to visit the strife-torn region. Bashir said an international force in Darfur would remain under the aegis of the African Union and that the UN would be confined to a ”technical and logistics role”.

Rasool commits R1bn to crime fight

Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool has committed R1-billion to boost security and policing in the province, the Cape Argus reported on Friday. In his state of the province address in the provincial legislature, Rasool said the money would go to staff, vehicles, equipment and volunteers to beef up police capabilities.

Intel on Monday touted a diminutive new microprocessor that it said could deliver "supercomputer-like" performance to home computers and handheld devices. Intel said its unprecedented programmable processor can perform more than a trillion calculations per second — a "teraflop".

Now Google’s email is open to all

In a Valentine’s Day gift to the world, Google has dropped the invitation-only policy for Gmail and made the free e-mail service available to anyone. "Gmail sign-ups are now open worldwide," Google associate product manager David Murray said in a posting on the California internet search engine’s website on Thursday.
