Amla steers Dolphins to victory

Batsman Hashim Amla became the man of the hour on Sunday in piloting the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins to a sensational six-wicket Supersport Series win over the Cape Cobras at Kingsmead on Sunday. The Dolphins scored 214 and 280 for four against the 216 and 276 for nine declared by the Western Province men.

Octavia Butler, science fiction writer, dies at 58

Octavia Butler, considered the first black woman to gain national prominence as a science fiction writer, has died, a close friend said on Sunday. She was 58. Butler fell and struck her head on the cobbled walkway outside her home, said Leslie Howle, a longtime friend and employee at the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame in Seattle.

Russia downplays Iran nuclear ‘agreement’

Russia on Monday downplayed progress on its plan to alleviate fears over Iran’s nuclear programme, saying there was still work to be done to reach agreement and warning that time was quickly running out ahead of a March 6 deadline. "This is a complex issue and the negotiations are difficult," said Sergei Kiriyenko, Russia’s chief nuclear negotiator with Iran.

Hopes fade for survivors in collapsed building in Dhaka

Rescuers recovered another body from a collapsed building in the Bangladeshi capital on Monday, raising the death toll to 19, as Parliament passed a law imposing jail terms for building code violators. Firefighters and soldiers found the body of 25-year-old construction worker Humayun while searching for survivors in the debris for the third consecutive day.
