Arsenal warned: Chelsea not finished yet

Claudio Ranieri has warned Arsenal they will need all of their killer instinct to end Chelsea’s Champions League dream in a fortnight’s time. A 1-1 draw in Wednesday’s first leg of the all-London quarterfinal left Arsenal as narrow favourites to advance to the last four of the tournament for the first time in the club’s history.

Venus, Serena in for the long haul

Serena Williams on Wednesday insisted that her off-court shots at a film career with a bit of fashion design work on the side will not distract her as she makes a comeback to tennis after eight months away. India clinch historic one-day series win

India recorded their first one-day series win in Pakistan with a 40-run win in the fifth and deciding one-day international to clinch the series 3-2. It was India’s first one-day series win in Pakistan in six attempts since the rival nations first played a limited-overs match on Pakistan soil in the 1978/79 season.

Madrid rally for win, Chelsea draw

Real Madrid rallied for a 4-2 victory over Monaco on Wednesday, putting the nine-time European champions in perfect position for another shot at Europe’s biggest club title. In the other Champions League quarterfinal first-leg match, Arsenal gained a slight edge with an away goal in a 1-1 draw at Premier League rival Chelsea.

Chiefs held to a draw

Title-chasing Kaizer Chiefs were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by relegation-haunted Silver Stars in their Castle Premiership clash played at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace outside Rustenburg on Wednesday night. The late arrival of fans for the second successive Chiefs midweek match forced the organisers to delay the kick-off.

Bahrain steps up security for grand prix

Bahrain’s government is stepping up security in preparation for the Middle East’s first formula one grand prix on April 4. Police have been increasing their street patrols in Bahrain, where schoolboys rioted outside the United States embassy on Wednesday and religious fanatics trashed an alcohol-serving French restaurant last week.
