Williams family ponders action over Indian Wells

Richard Williams has threatened the WTA Tour with legal action if it tries to force his daughters Venus and Serena to play at Indian Wells, which will become in 2009 one of four mandatory events for top-ranked players. The Williams sisters vowed in 2001 never to return to Indian Wells after they were jeered and, according to their father subjected to racial slurs.

Federer battles into Toronto semifinals

Roger Federer battled through to the Toronto Masters semifinals with a 7-6 6-7 6-3 win over Xavier Malisse on Friday. Playing his first event since claiming his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title, the world number one has yet to slip into a comfortable rhythm and for the second consecutive night was taken to three sets.
