Israel opens $56m Holocaust museum

Leaders and dignitaries from about 40 countries were in Jerusalem on Tuesday to attend the opening of a -million Holocaust museum that focuses on the personal tragedies of the six million Jews who perished in the Nazi genocide. The new Holocaust History Museum at Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem memorial took 10 years to complete.

A time of crisis for new Palestine leader

Mahmoud Abbas’s first hours in office were marked by a series of crises — from the resignation of 46 election officials who accused the ruling Fatah party of pressure to renewed violence that could threaten his leadership. Abbas was sworn in on Saturday as the new Palestinian leader while violence raged in the Gaza Strip.
