A federal judge has said consumers may go ahead with a class-action lawsuit against Microsoft over the way it advertised computers loaded with Windows XP as capable of running the Vista operating system. The lawsuit said Microsoft’s labelling of some PCs as ”Windows Vista Capable” was misleading.

Passengers travelling between European Union countries or taking domestic flights would have to hand over a mass of personal information, including their cellphone numbers and credit-card details, as part of a new package of security measures being demanded by the British government. Gold production for the current third quarter is forecast to decline by between 20% and 25% against the December quarter, Gold Fields said on Monday. As many as 10 000 people began gathering on Friday in a town in southern Zimbabwe for President Robert Mugabe’s 84th birthday celebrations, state radio reported. Organisers of Saturday’s ceremonies said they raised about Z-trillion for the bash — the equivalent of about R1,9-million at the dominant black-market exchange rate.

South Africa Women have made it to next year’s International Cricket Council Women’s World Cup after hammering Ireland Women by seven wickets in the semifinals of the World Cup qualifier tournament in Stellenbosch. Ireland Women were skittled for 107 in 47.4 overs as the South African bowlers gave them no breathing space.

Four Cape Town metro police officers were arrested on Friday afternoon for assault and attempted murder, police said. A South African Police Service spokesperson said five metro police officers were spotted by Lavender Hills residents assaulting and firing shots at an unknown man.

Turkish troops have crossed into northern Iraq in their hunt for Kurdish PKK guerrillas, the military said on Friday, but the United States and the European Union urged Ankara to keep the campaign limited. The White House said the US had been informed in advance of the incursion and urged Turkey to limit the operation to ”precise targeting” of the PKK rebels.
