Windies sweep to series win over Zimbabwe

Half-centuries by Runako Morton and Marlon Samuels guided West Indies to a one-day series win over Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on Friday. West Indies won the fourth match by five wickets to take an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. Zimbabwe scored 232-9 after being put in to bat, and the West Indies replied with 234-5 to win with three overs to spare.

Top Sundowns official leaves after dispute

Problem-plagued Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday announced that executive director Afzal Khan will be leaving the club in the wake of the protracted dispute in which Venezuelan international striker Jose Torrelaba alleged his signature had been forged on a document confirming the renewal of his contract with the club.

Skweyiya regrets publication of Lekota letter

”Unfortunate and regrettable” was how Social Development Minister Zola Skweyiya on Friday described the publication of a letter in which he criticised Defence Minister Mosiuoa Lekota. ”I wish to state that the letter was intended for internal discussion within the African National Congress, and not for public consumption,” he said.

Mugabe steals spotlight in Europe

His arrival may have been low-key, but veteran Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is likely to steal the spotlight at this weekend’s European Union-Africa summit with his first trip to Europe in more than two years. Usually the subject of a travel ban from the EU, Mugabe touched down in Lisbon late on Thursday.
