Chissano says Mugabe should be at summit

Former Mozambican president Joachim Chissano says Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe should attend the European Union-Africa summit to exchange views on issues in his country. ”I think it will be an opportunity for the EU to discuss with President Mugabe and exchange views,” Chissano was quoted as saying by the government mouthpiece Herald newspaper.

Durban policeman arrested for rape

A policeman has been arrested for allegedly raping a sex worker, Durban police said on Monday. The man, together with a colleague, picked up the woman in a police vehicle, Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said. ”The officer then dropped off his colleague and drove to a secluded spot in the Brighton Beach area where he raped her.”

Provisional agreement in motor strike

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the Retail Motor Industry have reached a provisional agreement regarding the strike in the motor components industry. Numsa spokesperson Mziwakhe Hlangani said Numsa members would be briefed about the agreement at local and regional offices on Tuesday.

Steve Flesch wins again on PGA tour

Steve Flesch shot a 1-over 73 on Sunday and beat Michael Allen by two shots to win the inaugural Turning Stone Resort Championship, the left-hander’s second PGA Tour victory in two months. Flesch had an 18-under 270 total and won ,08-million to boost his earnings for 2007 to ,2-million.

Westwood wins British Masters

Lee Westwood produced a brilliant final round of 65 to win the British Masters and become only the seventh player to reach £10-million prize money on the European Tour. Westwood (34) was in dazzling form at the Belfry on Sunday as his seven under par round gave him a five-stroke victory over Ian Poulter.
