AltX has performed spectacularly in the past year with a return of 107%. The ruling party in Zimbabwe has agreed to enforce age limits for its powerful youth wing in what analysts say may be a move to rein in over-ambitious leaders embroiled in the Zanu-PF’s messy succession debate, it emerged on Monday. Leaders of Zanu-PF’s youth wing must now not be older than 30 years, according to a report in Herald newspaper.

The JSE continued to hold on to its earlier gains by noon on Monday as miners gained speed after a rally in the gold and platinum price. Shortly before midday, the rand was bid at 7,19 to the United States dollar from 7,25 when the JSE closed on Friday, while gold was quoted at $703,75 a troy ounce from $703 at the JSE’s last close.

Somalia’s opposition leaders predicted on Monday that a further surge in an Islamist-led insurgency in the capital, Mogadishu, could defeat Ethiopian troops supporting the government there within two months. "The liberation forces are gaining strength day after day," said Zakariya Mahamud Abdi, spokesperson of a congress in Eritrea’s capital, Asmara.
