Tropical depression Lekima swept off the Philippines on Sunday, leaving five people dead and four missing, a disaster official said, warning that floods and landslides could cause more havoc. Anthony Golez, deputy chief of the civil defence office, said thousands of people were marooned in the north of the country.

A court case brought by Nigeria against Pfizer resumes on Tuesday with the United States drug maker saying it answered a call for help to save the lives of African children during a meningitis epidemic. Nigeria alleges Pfizer deceived patients and caused the death of 11 children in 1996 when it performed clinical trials for a new drug.

Lewis Hamilton won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday to take a huge step towards becoming the first rookie to win the Formula One championship.
