A missionary for BEE

Open glory in sight for Garcia

Sergio Garcia was on the cusp of his first win in a major on Sunday taking a three shot advantage into the final round of the British Open. Only 40-year-old American Steve Stricker could keep anywhere close to the Spaniard and he needed a course-record equalling 64 on Saturday to do that.

Two die at AngloGold Ashanti mine

A miner was found dead underground at AngloGold Ashanti’s Moab Khotsong mine, near Orkney, at 2am on Sunday morning. The body of a second miner had been located underground at 9am and rescue workers were in the process of recovering it, said AngloGold Ashanti spokesperson Steve Lenahan.

Floods kill at least 100 across China

More than 100 people have died in floods and landslides in China where dykes protecting a swollen river in the east, which has already prompted tens of thousands to flee their homes, are in danger of being breached. Severe flooding has hit about half of China since the start of the summer, killing hundreds in what has become the deadliest rainy season in years.

Moustache war shakes southern Egypt

When an elder was kidnapped in a clan dispute in conservative southern Egypt, the Al-Arab family’s worst fears were soon realised — they received a package containing his moustache. The man himself was returned uninjured, but the use of the new shaving tactic sent shockwaves through the town of Mahrusa.
