Tiger walks the wire at Masters

For every overcooked approach shot, every tee ball that landed in the pine straw, every drop in the drink at Rae’s Creek, Tiger Woods would come up with another shot to remind everyone why he can never be counted out. Woods may not win this year’s Masters, but he will certainly be in the mix after Friday.

World Cup takes predictable course

The semifinals for the Cricket World Cup could effectively be decided two weeks ahead of schedule and some fans are trying to sell tickets they no longer want. This isn’t how the organisers of the first World Cup in the Caribbean saw it happening. The Super Eights were expected to be a close-run competition to decide the final four teams.

Pranksters glue school doors shut

Students could not get into a California high school on Friday after vandals plugged locks on all exterior gates and doors with super-strength glue. ”A teacher who always gets there early called me on my cellphone and said, ‘Guess what?”’ said Carlsbad High School principal Margaret Stanchi. ”But I didn’t guess this.”

Solomons aid efforts increase amid disease fears

Aid agencies stepped up relief efforts in the Solomon Islands on Saturday as aftershocks rocked the region and fears grew of dysentery among the thousands of homeless tsunami victims. Nearly 5 500 people were left homeless in the region by the seismic event, which killed at least 34 people and wiped out entire villages.

Hole-in-one at age 102

A 102-year-old United States woman became the oldest person yet to hit a hole-in-one during a golf outing, US media reported on Friday. Elsie McClean of Chico, California, has been playing golf since she was in her 20s and had never hit a hole-in-one before.
