Brace for more petrol-price hikes, says AA

The record petrol-price increase of 68 cents a litre that kicks in at midnight on Tuesday won’t be the last, the Automobile Association (AA) said on Monday. ”Unfortunately, the high international crude-oil price does not bode well for consumers and the AA has warned that consumers can expect another price increase in May,” the AA said in a statement.

The problem of internet password security

It’s a good bet that if you have 20 online accounts, you don’t have 20 different passwords. In fact, according to a survey by Kaspersky Lab, most people (51% of us) only have between one and four passwords for 20 accounts. We are insecure. But recent developments mean we could be more secure in the near future.

EMI unveils new deal with Apple to sell songs online

EMI Group unveiled a groundbreaking deal on Monday that will allow computer company Apple to sell the record company’s songs online free from copy-protection software. The agreement means that customers of Apple’s iTunes store will soon be able to play downloaded songs by the Rolling Stones, Norah Jones, Coldplay and other top-selling artists free of copying restrictions.

Nigerian gunmen kidnap two Lebanese

Gunmen in Nigeria’s southern Bayelsa State on Monday kidnapped two Lebanese nationals, two days after a British oil worker was seized from an offshore rig, national police spokesperson Haz Iwendi said. ”It is true that the two Lebanese nationals were kidnapped this morning in Bayelsa State,” Iwendi said, without giving details.

Egg-sized hail kills 13 in southern China

Hail the size of eggs has ravaged southern parts of China, killing 13 people, closing an expressway and damaging crops on at least 81 300ha of farmland, the Xinhua news agency said on Monday. Seven people were killed and one was injured when a bus was hit in a landslide triggered by hailstorms since Sunday in mountainous areas in south-western Sichuan Province, Xinhua said.

United eye another treble

Manchester United, riding high at the top of the English Premiership, will be hoping to maintain their push for another treble when they travel to Italy to play Roma in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday. Still involved in the FA Cup at home, United fans are already dreaming of a repeat of 1999, when they won the League, FA Cup and Champions League.
