Marlon Samuels hit 98 off 95 balls and captain Brian Lara made 83 as the West Indies came back strongly to defeat India by three wickets in the third one-dayer on Saturday. The tourists overcame a rollicking start by the hosts to bowl India out for 268 and then surpassed the challenging target in the 44th over.

England captain Michael Vaughan says his side urgently need to find a way to heal some of the mental scars inflicted during their horrific Australian tour. Vaughan, who is himself sidelined as he continues to battle to overcome a hamstring strain, said the self-doubt permeating the team was ”cancerous” and a real threat to England’s hopes in the upcoming World Cup.

Wayne Rooney scored twice for Manchester United to beat Portsmouth 2-1 as Premier League clubs had a good day in the fourth round of England’s FA Cup on Saturday. Rooney scored from a low cross from Ryan Giggs in the 77th minute before hitting a long-range chip into the top left corner of the goal six minutes later.

Fighting between rival Palestinian forces erupted again on Sunday in the Gaza Strip, where 23 people have been killed in the fiercest bout of internecine bloodletting since Hamas won elections a year ago. Three Palestinians died overnight as militants from the ruling Hamas clashed with Fatah gunmen loyal to Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas.

Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have sought safe haven from the violence at home in neighbouring Jordan, where the influx of migrants has triggered concerns over inflation and job losses. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has said more than 700Â 000 Iraqis fled to Jordan in the aftermath of the United States-led 2003 war.
