Michael Owen has revealed that the operation on his knee will not bring an end to his career. Owen, who had the cruciate-ligament operation performed earlier this month in the United States, told The Times newspaper how he was given the good news as soon as he came round at the clinic in Denver.

Twelve Nigerian military personnel, mostly high-ranking officers, were killed in a plane crash on Sunday while six survived, the Presidency said in a statement on Monday. President Olusegun Obasanjo rushed home early from an International Monetary Fund meeting in Singapore following the crash of an air force Dornier 228 aircraft.

A stray dog which refused to budge from the home of a recently deceased rabbi has finally moved on after a ”redemption ceremony” at an Israeli cemetery. The dog, pictured in Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper on Monday, showed up at the house of the late Rabbi Nahman Dubinky.

Astronauts on shuttle Atlantis conducted a final inspection of their spacecraft’s heat shield on Monday as they began early preparations for their return to Earth. They used a sensor-laden robot arm to scan the shuttle’s wings and other surfaces that bear the brunt of super-hot temperatures.

Details emerged on Sunday about the seven interrogation techniques the CIA is seeking to be allowed to apply to terror suspects. Newsweek magazine reported that a New York lawyer, Scott Horton, who has acted as an adviser to the United States senate on interrogation methods, had acquired a list of the techniques.
