Australia Captain Ricky Ponting has been rapped on the knuckles by Cricket Australia, who said his behaviour was a concern after he was fined for dissent by the International Cricket Council. ”Let’s be clear, Cricket Australia doesn’t condone any actions that go outside the spirit of cricket,” Cricket Australia’s acting chief executive Michael Brown was quoted as saying by Australian media.

Three decades ago, these streets were ablaze as protesting youths pelted apartheid police with bricks and stones, angered by a government plan to force Afrikaans on them as a language of instruction. Chancellor Gordon Brown has acknowledged ”ups and downs” in his relationship with Prime Minister Tony Blair but says their friendship is strong and always will be. In an interview with Sky television broadcast on Thursday, Brown said Blair had led the country with ”a tremendous amount of ability, skill, acumen and sensitivity”.

The Johannesburg woman diagnosed with extreme drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) has agreed to hospital treatment, the Gauteng health department said on Thursday. ”We are busy conducting more tests to establish what drugs she could respond to,” said spokesperson Zanele Zungu.
