Aussies to show their scrum is no soft touch

Australia’s much-maligned front row is determined to prove itself against the Springboks in this week’s Tri-Nations clash after being humbled in New Zealand, prop Greg Holmes said on Tuesday. South Africa coach Jake White has already revealed he will be targeting the inexperienced Australian scrum in Brisbane on the weekend.

JSE flattish in quiet trade

The JSE was just marginally weaker before noon on Tuesday after a directionless morning characterised by light volumes. A marginally weaker rand and a rebound in commodity prices failed to benefit resources stocks. By 11.55am, the all-share and all-share industrial indices both dipped 0,1%.

NPA rules out reopening Hani murder case

South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has ruled out reopening the case of the 1993 assassination of then South African Communist Party leader Chris Hani. NPA spokesperson Makhosini Nkosi said it had received a request from the Young Communist League that the case relating to Martin Thembisile "Chris" Hani be reopened.

Tri-series schedule thrown into confusion

A bitter battle to control Sri Lanka’s cricket establishment has wrecked the schedule for next month’s limited-overs tri-series against India and South Africa. The dispute, generated by upcoming elections at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), revolves around holding the first four matches of the August 14-29 tri-series in the central town of Dambulla.
