<i>Hard Copy</i> is shot on a reconstructed newsroom set in the disused Rissik Street post office donated as a location by the city of Johannesburg. In a month, production designer Emelia Weavind and crew created a busy, layered working space where issues and temperaments can play themselves out to the full. Matthew Krouse saw the first episode.

The Indaba has borne rich fruits since the first conference in 1995 the number and stature of speakers has increased with each year. This year’s event boasts 43 design gurus and local design talent is also amply represented reports Alistair Fairweather.

Railway poses new dangers to fragile Tibetan plateau

While China is keen to stress the environmentally friendly aspects of the new railway to Tibet, many are concerned about the line’s impact on the Himalayan region’s fragile ecosystem. China has said 1,54-billion yuan (-million) was spent on railway-related projects to protect the environment, such as 33 crossings especially arranged for the Tibetan antelope, a protected species.
