Chad and Sudan work to bury the hatchet

Sudan and Chad are ready to work to restore relations, three months after N’djamena broke off ties over alleged Sudanese backing of a failed coup, a foreign ministry spokesperson in Khartoum said on Tuesday. Chadian Foreign Minister Ahmat Allami arrived in Khartoum late on Monday and went into talks with his Sudanese counterpart, Lam Akol.

Cold winter gives rise to hypothermia warnings

The coldest month of the year is in full swing, and the City of Johannesburg says homeless people should beware of the creeping killer, hypothermia. People are being encouraged to wear as much clothing as possible. ”We are also advising people to pack cardboard and newspapers in their clothes and shoes to keep the heat in,” said emergency services spokesperson Malcolm Midgley.

Bayern confirm interest in Ruud

German champions Bayern Munich on Monday confirmed they want to sign Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. Dutch star Van Nistelrooy (30) looks certain to leave Old Trafford this summer after falling out with United manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season.

JSE flattish in quiet trade

The JSE was just marginally weaker before noon on Tuesday after a directionless morning characterised by light volumes. A marginally weaker rand and a rebound in commodity prices failed to benefit resources stocks. By 11.55am, the all-share and all-share industrial indices both dipped 0,1%.
