Olmert on verge of winning his border battle

Israelis are expected to elect a government on Tuesday that plans for the first time to set the final borders of the Jewish state — ending years of expansionism but still holding on to significant parts of the occupied territories. Opinion polls suggest that the Kadima party founded by the stricken prime minister, Ariel Sharon, will see off all opposition.

Seal hunters, activists clash on schedule

Animal rights activists accused Canadian authorities on Monday of fomenting trouble to prevent them from scrutinising the controversial seal hunt that started over the weekend. Seven activists were arrested on Sunday for getting too close to a vessel involved in the hunt while trying to document the slaughter on Sunday.

Sophos has announced the new version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux, which now includes on-access scanning for Linux platforms. SAV for Linux version 5.0 detects and disinfects viruses, Trojans, worms and spyware targeting Linux, Windows and other platforms whenever files are accessed on a Linux computer.

Tornado rips through German city

Hundreds of thousands of people spent the night without electricity after a tornado tore through the north German city of Hamburg, leaving two people dead and a trail of destruction. The powerful winds uprooted trees, brought down power lines, overturned cars and forced rail traffic to a halt, officials said on Tuesday.

Ten schoolgirls raped during protest in Kenya

At least 10 girls were raped when a gang of men attacked hundreds of students who were demonstrating against a school administration in central Kenya over the weekend, police said on Tuesday. ”The incident happened when students, who were protesting at night, were attacked,” said national police spokesperson Jaspher Ombati.
