Opener Adam Gilchrist smashed 88 runs from 66 deliveries on Sunday to lead Australia to a record score of 344 for six wickets against South Africa in a tri-series limited-over international. Australia’s total was its highest against South Africa and the second-highest at the Sydney Cricket Ground in one-day matches.

Zimbabwe, already reeling from daily blackouts, faces increased power outages due to declining local production and import cuts, a state-run newspaper reported on Sunday. Electricity imports from neighbouring South Africa were suspended last week because of "forced outages in their system" expected to last at least two weeks.

South African film sensation Tsotsi is winning acclaim with its raw and compassionate depiction of Johannesburg’s criminal underworld, where poverty and HIV/Aids are mainstays of existence. The film tells the story of a 19-year-old ”tsotsi”, or thug, who is confronted with the depravity of his life while caring for a baby found in the back seat of a car he hijacked after shooting the mother.
