The Titans jumped back to the top of the Standard Bank Cup table after stuttering to an exciting two-wicket win over the luckless Cape Cobras at Supersport Park on Sunday. The visitors now prop up the bottom of the log without a win in five outings. Set a small target of 171, the Titans got off to a cautious start.

Spot gold on Monday burst through the $540-a-troy-ounce mark for the first time since March 1981 on fund-buying of the metal. At 9.45am, gold was quoted at $541,10/oz. The spot price of platinum on Monday climbed to $1 017,50 an ounce — its highest level since March 1980.

Firefighters were tackling a massive blaze at a key oil depot north of London early on Monday, after explosions sent orange fireballs and a pall of thick black smoke into the sky over southern England. The explosions and fire happened before dawn on Sunday, leaving 43 people injured in what police said appeared to be an accidental blast.

Athens’s main Syntagma Square was rocked by a makeshift explosive device early on Monday that sprayed shattered glass and debris over a wide area, a police source said. The Eleftherotypia daily had received an anonymous phone call about a bomb 30 minutes earlier, the source said.
