Four die from Ebola-like virus in Angola

Four people died on Saturday from an outbreak of the Ebola-like Marburg virus in the provincial hospital of Uige in northern Angola, bringing the total nation-wide death toll to 119 in less than six months. Until now the most serious outbreak of the disease was in the DRC where 123 people died between 1998-2000.

Bury ‘Blair-run MDC’ urges Mugabe

President Robert Mugabe’s party has dubbed this week’s elections in Zimbabwe an opportunity to ”bury Blair”, claiming the British premier is the puppet-master of the MDC. At a rally Mugabe told supporters: ‘You will be lost if you vote for the opposition because it would be as good as voting Blair into power.’

Bafana make heavy weather of Uganda win

Bafana Bafana made heavy weather of beating Uganda 2-1 in a hard fought 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations group two clash. But the win has revitalised South Africa’s hopes of qualifying for a third successive World Cup final. South Africa bagged three valuable points and still top their group with 12 points.

Bulls no match for classy Waratahs

An electric 34-point performance from fullback Peter Hewat ensured the Waratahs equalled their best-ever Super 12 season start with a crushing 42-12 win over the Bulls at Aussie Stadium on Saturday. Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer said the Waratahs were the pick of the sides his team had come up against this year.
