Congo rebels are eating pygmies

Marauding rebels are massacring and eating pygmies in the dense forests of north-east Congo, according to UN officials who are investigating allegations of cannibalism in Ituri province, where fighting between several rebel groups has displaced about 150 000 people in the past month.

Reversal of fortunes sees JSE flat

The JSE Securities Exchange South Africa (JSE) retreated into the red at the start on Thursday in fairly quiet trade. The opening saw a reverse of the trend over the past two days, with gold stocks gaining ground boosted by a higher bullion price, but heavyweight rand hedge stocks slipping on the back of a firmer currency.
