SA denies nuclear involvement in Iran

South Africa on Monday denied that it proposed taking part in any uranium-enrichment activities in Iran, saying it had been ”actively involved in seeking a diplomatic solution regarding the peaceful uses of nuclear energy by Iran”. ”The report … is erroneous and without any foundation,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

Ferdinand: United have silenced critics

Under-fire Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said the 1-0 weekend win over Premiership leaders Chelsea has put a stop to the criticism that has bedevilled the club in recent weeks. With a vicious slating from skipper Roy Keane thrown in, the Red Devils could hardly have gone into Sunday’s encounter in a worse frame on mind.

Norwegians break film marathon record

Four Norwegians entered a movie theatre early on Friday and emerged on Monday, 38 movies, 70 hours and 33 minutes later, with a new world record in "movie-guzzling", Norwegian public radio NRK reported. The four pale and exhausted movie enthusiasts beat the previous known film-watching record of 70 hours and nine minutes.

Record year for Paralympic star

South African Paralympic star Ernst van Dyk continues to enjoy one of his most successful years to date, having just won the New York Marathon and Oita Marathon in Japan in the space of two weeks. Van Dyk’s win in New York came in a course record time of 1:31,11.

McCarthy a doubtful starter for Bafana
