SABMiller takes JSE higher

The JSE Securities Exchange (JSE) was stronger in noon trade on Tuesday as SABMiller’s announcement before the opening that it was acquiring a controlling interest in Bavaria in Latin America lifted traders’ spirits. Dealers said that while there were pockets of profit-taking on the bourse, overall sentiment remained positive.

Norway cuts aid to Uganda

The Norwegian government has withdrawn aid totalling -million to Uganda, accusing Kampala of mishandling the political process, and failing to contain corruption and human rights abuses, the Norwegian ambassador said on Tuesday. A government spokesperson said the decision by Norway to cut aid ”is totally unjustified”

Moodie continues winning streak

South African Wesley Moodie beat the heat on Monday in a steamy struggle over Jean-Rene Lisnard of France 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round of the  000 RCA Championships in Indianapolis. Moodie was the surprise winner of the Wimbledon doubles title this month, alongside Australian Stephen Huss.

Pakistan militants linked to London attacks

Two of the London bombers travelled to Pakistan together last November and spent almost three months there, it emerged on Monday. Pakistani officials released dramatic footage showing Mohammad Sidique Khan, the man suspected of leading the London cell, arriving from Britain at Karachi airport on the same Turkish Airlines flight TK 1056 on November 19 last year, as Shehzad Tanweer.
