The Turkish army on Friday pounded areas across the border in northern Iraq with artillery fire, continuing its assaults on suspected rebel positions, a Kurdish border guard official said. Major General Jabar Yawar, spokesperson for the Peshmerga border guard in Iraq’s northern autonomous Kurdistan area, said that there were no immediate reports of casualties.

United States forces stormed an Iranian consular office in the northern Iraqi Kurdish city of Arbil early on Thursday and arrested five people, including diplomats and staff. The US military made no direct mention of Iranians but in answer to a query issued a statement saying six ”individuals” were arrested during ”routine” operations in the area.
At least 35 people were killed and 25 wounded in a double suicide car bomb attack on Monday evening in the northern Iraqi town of Tall Afar, bringing the overall car bomb death toll for the day to 53. In the bloodiest attack, two suicide bombers drove cars packed with explosives into a crowd in Tall Afar, about 400km north of Baghdad.
A suicide bomber ripped through an Iraqi police recruitment centre in the northern Kurdish city of Arbil on Wednesday, killing 45 and wounding up to 100 a day after Iraq’s first democratic Cabinet was sworn in. Scenes of chaos filled the streets as ambulances evacuated the dead and injured from the compound.
Former Iraqi vice-president Taha Yassin Ramadan has been captured by Kurdish fighters in the northern city of Mosul on Monday and turned over to United States forces.
