Worried that a low birth rate could threaten the country’s very survival, Singapore’s government is playing Cupid, using Valentine’s Day to promote romance and marriage. In a city where many singles say they are too busy making money to make love, the government plans to step up its official "Romancing Singapore" campaign on Thursday.

New gaming resort to boost Singapore tourism

Genting’s upcoming casino resort featuring a Universal Studios theme park will be Singapore’s biggest tourism money spinner and is expected to break even in seven years, the Malaysian gaming giant said this week. The "Resorts World at Sentosa" is projected to generate tourism receipts of $9,5-billion annually by 2015.

Boeing gains altitude as Airbus hits turbulence

United States aviation giant Boeing scored a major victory when Singapore Airlines (SIA) ordered 20 of its new mid-size jets while production delays plague its European rival Airbus. SIA on Wednesday announced an order for 20 Boeing 787 aircraft worth $4,5-billion, just hours after publicly expressing displeasure over a postponement in the delivery of the much-vaunted Airbus A380 super jumbo jet.
