CCMA brokers agreement in Nelspruit 2010 stadium strike

Intervention by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) on Wednesday brought an end to the pay dispute between workers and management at the 2010 Soccer World Cup Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Spokesperson Lusanda Myoli said an agreement was reached after two days of intense negotiations.

Nelspruit Cup-stadium strike continues

Workers at the 2010 Soccer World Cup Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit are still striking, while talks with management and the government continue, the National Union of Mineworkers said on Friday. About 500 workers downed tools on Wednesday morning demanding better pay.

Areva bids to build nuclear plants in South Africa

France’s Areva has submitted a multibillion-dollar offer to develop and build nuclear power plants in South Africa after Eskom invited international companies to submit bids. Areva said it would head a consortium that includes French power group EDF, French construction company Bouygues and SA construction firm Aveng.

Nelspruit 2010 stadium strike continues

The strike by construction workers at the 20101 World Cup Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, entered its fifth day on Monday, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) said. Workers affiliated to the NUM downed tools on Wednesday last week demanding better pay and working conditions.
