Rain halts Windies-Sri Lanka match

Persistent rain stopped the third and final one-day cricket international between West Indies and Sri Lanka with the match evenly poised on Tuesday. The home team were on 81 for two off 18.2 overs, chasing Sri Lanka’s 257 for eight off 50, when showers swept across Beausejour Stadium and caused the abandonment of the match and a no-result.

Hurricane Dean rips through Caribbean islands

Hurricane Dean tore through the eastern Caribbean islands of St Lucia and Martinique on Friday, ripping the roofs from a hospital and homes, felling trees and flinging boulders and a boat on to roads. The first hurricane of the Atlantic season, packing 160km/h winds, tore the roof off the children’s ward at Victoria Hospital in Castries.

Lara tinkers with team ahead of India matches

Captain Brian Lara says the West Indies will continue to experiment against underwhelming Zimbabwe in the seven-match limited overs cricket series, including game five on Wednesday. ”I think it is a situation of everybody getting a game,” said Lara, whose side has a comfortable 3-0 lead. ”We still want to make sure we have the right players and we have everybody peaking at the right time.”

Windies chalk up another loss

Opener Chris Gayle slammed 124, but West Indies lost a record ninth consecutive one-day cricket international and Pakistan’s 22-run victory wrapped up a 3-0 series sweep on Sunday. Pakistan had already clinched their first triumph in any Caribbean series on Saturday.
