Samuel Eto’o equalled the Africa Cup of Nations goalscoring record as Cameroon restored their reputation with a comfortable 5-1 win over Zambia in their Group C match at Kumasi’s Baba Yaro stadium on Saturday. Eto’o converted a 66th-minute penalty to register his 14th goal in five tournaments, matching a 38-year-old record set by Laurent Pokou of Côte d’Ivoire.

In a startling admission, many of the Bafana Bafana players have confirmed they were ”in the dark” over the Confederation of African Football rules that resulted in Zambia catapulting past South Africa to become Group 11 winners after their stunning 3-1 win in an African Nations Cup qualifier in Cape Town on Sunday.

Namibia and Zambia both pulled off shock wins in the African Nations Cup qualifiers at the weekend to book their places at the 2008 finals in Ghana. They were joined by fellow group winners Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal while 2010 World Cup hosts South Africa sneaked in the back door.
