Twenty rescued in Durban flash-floods

Search-and-rescue workers saved 20 people trapped in cars and homes by rising water in a heavy overnight downpour in Durban. ”We used a police boat to move many people away from the Island Hotel in Isipingo and we assisted several others who were stuck in cars due to rising flood water,” said Captain Troy Alison.

Overnight rains lead to flooding in Durban

At least 20 people who were trapped in cars and homes by rising water levels during a heavy overnight downpour in Durban were rescued by the police’s search-and-rescue team. ”We used a police boat to move many people away from the Island Hotel in Isipingo and we assisted several others,” the unit’s commander, Captain Troy Alison, said on Wednesday.

Motorist shot on N3 highway

A Durban motorist was shot on Tuesday while a second bullet narrowly missed another driver, paramedics said. ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the motorists came under fire on the N2/N3 split, near the so-called Spaghetti Junction, after a car accident just after midnight.

Alleged robber hit by taxi

An alleged robber was run over by a taxi on Saturday while escaping a Durban crime scene. ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the man sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead at the scene. It is alleged that the man had robbed a woman who had been walking with two men along Berea Road.

Pupils injured as truck crashes into school

At least 14 Durban school pupils were injured on Wednesday when a tipper lorry crashed into a school in the Lindelani area, north of Durban, police said. Police spokesperson Inspector Michael Read said a truck ploughed into a high school, injuring pupils. ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said they had transported 14 school pupils to hospital.
