Convicted businessman Schabir Shaik is undergoing tests at a Durban hospital to determine the extent of organ damage, if any, caused by persistent problems with high blood pressure, his brother said on Friday. Mo Shaik said: ”He is undergoing tests in terms of organ damage. It’s a case of seeing what there is and what to do about it.”
A 76-year-old man is fighting for his life in a Durban hospital after being stung more than 1 000 times by bees on Wednesday, paramedics said. Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the man had left his house in KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN) Drummond area to go for a walk when he was attacked by the bees.

Most of the babies who died following a klebsiella outbreak at a Durban hospital were underweight and born to teenage mothers, Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang said on Thursday. Tshabalala-Msimang was speaking at the opening of a public hospital management conference in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

Health Minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang said on Wednesday that further investigation into the outbreak of klebsiella at a Durban hospital, where five babies died, was needed. In a statement, the minister said she had been briefed by the management of the Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital on the outbreak.
A woman has been arrested with human tissue in her possession at a Durban hospital, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Sunday. Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said the 33-year-old assistant nurse was caught with a baby’s umbilical cord in the hospital’s parking lot at 2.15pm.
