Group Five H1 headline EPS up 41%

South African construction and engineering firm Group Five boosted half-year headline earnings per share by 41%, and predicted more growth as it benefits from a construction boom. The company said headline EPS from continuing operations rose to R1,74 from R1,23 in the six months to end December.

Kumba headline EPS up 43% as demand booms

Kumba Iron Ore, Africa’s biggest iron-ore producer, saw full-year headline earnings per share (EPS) leap by 43% as prices and demand soared, the company said on Thursday. Kumba said tight global supplies should support prices in the coming year, but said costs resulting from an energy shortage in South Africa could weigh.

JSE remains negative on world markets

The JSE continued to follow the downward trend in international markets at midday on Thursday, remaining firmly in the red. By 11.58am, the JSE’s all-share index lost 0,7%. The gold mining index gave up 0,8% and resources fell 0,7%, but the platinum mining index added 0,57%.

Implats headline EPS up 75%

Implats, the world’s second-biggest platinum producer, posted a 75% rise in annual headline earnings per share on Thursday, at the top end of expectations, lifted by higher output and strong metals prices. South Africa’s Impala Platinum Holdings said headline EPS jumped to R13,12 for the 12 months to end-June from R7,50 the previous year.
