Scores arrested in transatlantic mafia crackdown

More than 80 alleged mobsters were on Thursday night in jail or on the run in New York and Sicily after what was hailed as the biggest transatlantic strike against Cosa Nostra in almost 25 years. United States law enforcement officials arrested 54 suspects, including three said to be important members of New York’s Gambino crime family.

Mafia boss arrested while watching Mafia TV show

Italian police burst into the room of a suspected Mafia mobster in Sicily and arrested him as he watched a television show about the arrest of a Mafia boss, investigators said on Friday. Police said Michele Catalano was watching the concluding chapter late on Thursday of the TV mini-series The Boss of Bosses when he was detained.

Italian police collar top Mafia man

Italian police on Monday arrested Salvatore lo Piccolo, who is suspected to have become the new head of the Sicilian Mafia following the 2006 arrest of the former ”boss of bosses” Bernardo Provenzano. In a morning operation, about 40 police officers surrounded and then raided a villa near the Sicilian capital, Palermo.

Italian cops arrest 40 over German mafia deaths

Italian police on Thursday arrested 40 suspected Mafiosi at the centre of a mob feud police blame for the execution-style killings of six Italians in Germany. Camouflage-clad police backed by helicopters swooped into the southern Italian mountain village of San Luca, the epicentre of a 16-year-old feud inside the Calabrian underworld organisation.
