Murdered teenagers found on top of grave

The bodies of two teenagers were found on top of a grave in the Azalea Cemetery in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg police said on Sunday. Inspector Joey Jeevan said the girls — believed to be aged 16 and 17 — were found at about 10am on Saturday. They had been shot and stabbed several times in the head and body, she said.

Welders severely burned in tank explosion

Two welders were critically injured when the tank in which they were working exploded in Pietermaritzburg, paramedics said. Netcare 911 said two men were taken to the city’s St Anne’s Hospital. Police spokesperson Inspector Joey Jeevan confirmed the explosion but could not immediately provide any details.

Matatiele residents march on Maritzburg

Matatiele residents were set to march through Pietermaritzburg on Thursday to the KwaZulu-Natal legislature in protest over their incorporation into the Eastern Cape. Matatiele-Maluti Mass Action Organising Committee chairperson Mandla Galo said that at least 45 minibus taxis had transported residents to Pietermaritzburg.

Court clerk held for 178 counts of fraud

A Pietermaritzburg court clerk was arrested after being linked to 178 counts of theft and fraud, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday. Spokesperson Inspector Joey Jeevan said a team arrested the 38-year-old woman at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, after months of intensive investigations.

Man held for murder of ex-journalist

A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a former crime journalist, police said on Friday. Pietermaritzburg police spokesperson Inspector Joey Jeevan said the man was questioned on Wednesday and formally arrested on Thursday. ”He is expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday,” she said.
