Vijay Singh takes 30th career title

Vijay Singh captured his 30th career title and became the most successful player over the age of 40 in PGA Tour history when he won the Mercedes-Benz Championship on Sunday. Singh led throughout the final round of the ,5-million event, carding a solid, bogey-free three-under-par 70 for a two-stroke victory over Adam Scott.

Singh stretches lead in Hawaii

Fiji’s Vijay Singh stayed steady on another windy day on the Kapalua Plantation course on Saturday, opening a three-shot lead after three rounds of the United States PGA Tour season-opening Mercedes Championship. Singh nabbed five birdies with two bogeys in a three-under-par 70. That gave him a 54-hole total of 11-under 208.

PGA season starts without Tiger and top rivals

Tiger Woods and many of his top rivals will still be on vacation when the US PGA Tour season begins in Kapalua, Hawaii, on Thursday, but the golf world in 2006 will still revolve around the 10-time major champion. Woods, who turned 30 last Friday, has won 46 tournaments in nine and a half years on the PGA Tour and has a solid chance to threaten the career marks of 18 majors set by Jack Nicklaus and 82 victories achieved by Sam Snead.
