Saru sidestep no surprise

Hot on the heels of Springbok coach Jake White’s announcement of his imminent departure, the South African Rugby Union (Saru) seems set to add the name of Dick Muir to its shortlist of candidates to replace White. This is the same Saru that claimed White could not be considered for an extension of his post because he had missed the deadline for applications.

Sundowns, Bucs made to fight for victory

It might not have been the kind of ”Hand of God” goal that Diego Maradona immortalised, but battling Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns secured a much-needed 1-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic at the Free State Rugby Stadium on Wednesday night with what could be termed ”a gift from the gods”.

Arrows show their mettle against Pirates

Golden Arrows beat Orlando Pirates 2-1 in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) clash at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Saturday. There was no score at half-time. Amazulu registered their second win of the PSL season when they beat Black Leopards 2-1 in scorching heat at Giyani Stadium, Thohoyandou.

Nando Matola killed in car accident

Missing soccer player Nando Matola has been reported to have died in a car accident, according to a report on Mozambique state radio on Thursday. It was reported that Matola, a Mozambican national who played for the Black Leopards in South Africa, was accompanied by his wife and three children when their car veered off the road and hit a tree.

Leopards beat Stars in one-sided game

A clinical, workmanlike Black Leopards mauled and ultimately devoured Platinum Stars while winning a one-sided Premier Soccer League game 2-0 at a largely deserted Giyani Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Goals from the industrious Myron Shongwe in the 30th minute and David Makgale in the 61st minute added to Stars’ discomfort.
