Profit-taking continues to weigh on JSE

The JSE widened its losses by midday on Wednesday as profit-taking and negative sentiment continued to dampen the market. By noon, the JSE’s broader all-share index declined 1,4%, led by a 2,72% pull back in the platinum-mining index. The gold-mining index retreated 2,71% and resources dipped 1,85%.

Anglo, Billiton still weigh on JSE

Resource heavyweights Anglo American and BHP Billiton continued to weigh on the JSE in midday trade on Tuesday, with the all-share pulling back almost half a percent from its earlier levels. By midday, the JSE all-share index dropped 0,69% as resources gave up 0,96%. The gold-mining index shed 0,12% but the platinum-mining index improved 0,42%. Industrials lost 0,53%.

JSE a touch firmer in midday trade

The JSE continued on a lacklustre path as it edged up slightly from its flat open to trade 0,68% higher at midday on Monday. World markets were also flat at midday amid a continued lack of activity as United States traders took a day off to celebrate Labour Day. By midday on the JSE, the all-share index was up 0,68%.
