A man and a woman travelling in a white BMW were critically injured outside Hillary Primary School in Durban on Tuesday morning after gunmen opened fire on their vehicle, which had stopped near the school. Donovan Pillay (26) was seated in the car with Leanne Armugam — the wife of his cousin, local taxi boss Duncan Armugam.

Three people have been arrested after a seven-year KwaZulu-Natal boy was beheaded for R20 000 in what is believed to be a muti transaction, KwaDabeka police said on Monday. Police spokesperson Captain Bongani Khomo said the incident has left police officers and the Clermont community in shock.

The Group Five-WBHO Consortium on Thursday obtained a Labour Court interdict preventing construction workers from entering the site where Durban’s Moses Mabhida 2010 Soccer World Cup Stadium is being built. The interdict followed an incident in the morning when two security guards were chased off the building site by striking workers.

The fifth man arrested in connection with the murder of historian David Rattray appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on Wednesday, KwaZulu-Natal police said. Zwelihle Mtshali (21) had his case postponed until Thursday, when he would appear in the local high court, police spokesperson Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said.

KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a fifth suspect for the murder of historian David Rattray. Police spokesperson Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said on Tuesday he could confirm that a fifth suspect had been arrested and was expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Wednesday.

An alleged robber was run over by a taxi on Saturday while escaping a Durban crime scene. ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said the man sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead at the scene. It is alleged that the man had robbed a woman who had been walking with two men along Berea Road.
A woman has been arrested with human tissue in her possession at a Durban hospital, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Sunday. Superintendent Muzi Mngomezulu said the 33-year-old assistant nurse was caught with a baby’s umbilical cord in the hospital’s parking lot at 2.15pm.
